Adroit Consult International was contracted by the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) to conduct a market study on fundraising strategies. This study is part of a broader initiative by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support African National Societies in improving their domestic resource mobilization.
The IFRC is the global governing body for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, comprised of 192 National Societies, including URCS. URCS, like many other National Societies, faces challenges in ensuring long-term financial sustainability. To address this issue, the organization prioritized resource mobilization as a key strategic area. The study helped URCS to develop effective fundraising strategies and diversify its funding sources, ultimately enhancing its financial sustainability and ability to deliver vital humanitarian services. It focused on; Analyzing the socio-economic and political landscape of Uganda; Examining the fundraising activities of other organizations in the country; Identifying potential fundraising markets and segments; and Evaluating the fundraising performance of URCS.
The survey engaged a total of 184 stakeholders including GoU Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Potential competitors (prominent NGOs: INGOs, UN Agencies and fundraising NGOs), Potential donor segments (such as corporates, International Grant-Giving Organizations, General Public, Ugandans in the Diaspora, URCS Staff at national office and branch level and URCS movement partners). The respondents were purposively selected
