MANAGEMENT OF THE INSURANCE INNOVATIONS AWARDS FROM 2021 TO 2026

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) of Uganda implements Insurance Innovation Awards annually to motivate, facilitate and promote the Insurance sector’s solutions development and innovation initiatives. The Awards recognise players who have been more innovative than others with respect to solution design and/or solution delivery. All licensed Insurers, Health Membership Organisations and Brokers are eligible to compete either individually or in partnership.

 

Adroit Consult International has supported IRA to manage these awards since 2021 and has a standing contract to manage them until 2026, with a possible extension. So far 3 rounds of awards have been conducted. Adroit’s primary role is to manage the entire process of the insurance innovation awards, from developing criteria to selecting and recognizing winners. Specific tasks include;

  • Developing criteria: Creating objective standards for innovative insurance products and selecting winners.
  • Promoting participation: Engaging potential participants through follow-ups and pre-application visits.
  • Evaluating proposals: Reviewing submissions, conducting interviews, and recommending finalists.
  • Managing awards night: Handling logistics, photography, videography, and announcements.
  • Reporting: Providing a detailed report to the Authority, including observations and recommendations.
  • Highlighting success stories: Profiling previous winners to enhance the awards’ reputation.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: Developing an M&E matrix to track progress and learn from past experiences.

 

The Awards are attended by representatives from key sectors that are critical to insurance innovation, such as banks, logistics forums, supply chain entities, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), UBA as well as the political leadership. As partners in the growth of the industry, the mass media is engaged to support in publicizing the awards and general industry performance. Furthermore, to encourage a good turn-up and attach more “weight” to this event, initiatives such as organising a breakfast meeting with CEOs of the actors among other activities are done to bring them together before the Awards/ gala night.
