The 2026 Insurance Innovation Challenge (IIC) Uganda

Adroit Consult International, in partnership with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Uganda, is excited to announce the launch of the 2026 Insurance Innovation Challenge (IIC).

As the official implementation and hackathon management partner, Adroit Consult International invites qualified individuals, startups, tech firms, and established financial institutions to submit their innovative solutions.

Why the Insurance Innovation Challenge?

Despite microinsurance being introduced in Uganda over a decade ago, market penetration remains low. As a result, millions of Ugandans bear the full financial burden during emergencies—such as severe illness, sudden crop failure, climate hazards, and unexpected business disruption.

The 2026 Insurance Innovation Challenge addresses this protection gap by driving tech-enabled, accessible, and affordable insurance models tailored for Uganda’s underserved populations, smallholder farmers, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Priority Focus Areas

We are looking for scalable, market-driven solutions using technology, strategic partnerships, or novel business models across four priority verticals:

• Agricultural & Climate Risk Insurance
• Micro-Health Insurance
• Life & Inclusive Savings Products
• SME & MSME Business Protection

Target Categories: Who Should Apply?

Applications are open across two primary applicant tiers:

Category	Eligible Participants
1. Established Entities	Traditional Insurance Companies, Brokers, Bancassurance Agents, InsurTechs, FinTechs, AgriTechs, HealthTechs, and IRA InsureX Graduates.
2. Early-Stage Innovators	University Students, Early-Stage Startups, Independent Entrepreneurs, and Community Innovators with high-potential ideas.
